“I stole everything I ever heard, but mostly I stole from the horns.”
Standing on the concrete ledge of the fireplace in the Yonkers, New York home she grew up in, Emily sang her first ballad - a version of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” only a 5 year old could sing.
She took piano lessons for 8 years, learning how to read music fluently. Emily’s love for words started in 7th grade with writing poetry, and today she writes poetry in motion in the form of her own music. Voice lessons were sporadic throughout her upbringing, listening to influences like Diana Ross & The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Bob Marley, and Jane’s Addiction for inspiration.
Emily joined chorus in high school, and continued her musical endeavors in an a capella group, gospel choir, and traditional choir while attending college. Throughout this musical exploration, she began to develop her own voice and style based on some of her favorite artists like Amy Winehouse and Erykah Badu – a mixture of soul, jazz, and blues with accents of r&b and hip-hop.
She released her first iTunes single dubbed “50-50” in 2013, and has been writing original music since. Emily currently gigs around South Florida performing cover and original music with several bands and musicians, while working on her first album.
